Project Reflection

As for our first project for this year, we had to design a minimum of three screens for a smartwatch app. There had been no theme assigned to this project, so creativity was not restricted or limited. I was very worried at first by the short deadline that we had for this project, but in the end it was quite doable and the app that I had made was much more extensive than the requirements that we had initially been given. Although the design is very simple, I found through my research that smartwatches should be this way, due to the lack of space that is allowed for content to be placed. This is something that I had previously struggled with in the past when we had done exercises for a smartwatch design. I was able to take both of these points into consideration, and made sure that this was not a mistake that I made. However, a screen I designed contained a lot of content with too much information that was not necessary, but I was able to overcome this issue and change it after some feedback in order to be more suitable for a smartwatch.

From doing this project, I really learned to be more focused on the user and their needs. Solving the problem of the users is a key thing in design and I think I was not putting enough thought into this when making previous project. This project and much research has helped me understand more how this is a very important subject when designing for someone. It ensures that I can create better and more effective designs suitable for its intended purpose.

Overall, I am satisfied with my outcome. I found it to be a good small beginning project to start the new unit, which I enjoyed. Although I am daunted by the new upcoming project, which is much bigger and more detailed, I found this project to be very helpful in making me feel more ready for the new challenge.
